This just in from Dorna:

Date Grand Prix Circuit
April 12th* Qatar Losail
April 26th Japan Motegi
May 3rd Spain Jerez
May 17th France Le Mans
May 31st Italy Mugello
June 14th Catalunya Catalunya
June 27th** Netherlands Assen
July 5th*** United States Laguna Seca

July 19th Germany Sachsenring
July 26th Great Britain Donington Park

August 16th Czech Republic Brno
August 30th Indianapolis Indianapolis
September 13th San Marino & Riviera di Rimini

September 20th Hungary Balaton
October 4th Portugal Estoril
October 18th Australia Phillip Island
October 25th Malaysia Sepang
November 8th Valencia Ricardo Tormo - Valencia

* Evening race
** Saturday race
*** Only MotoGP class

----------------------------------------------------

So Shanghai is removed, with Motegi shifting forward to compensate, Estoril returning to the back half of the yearand Hungary shuffling in imediatly after Indy.

we've lost 2 tracks in as many years. 1 of 'em was even good.

To break it down tho.

Spain gets 3
Portugal gets 1
Italy gets 2
USA gets 2

or by "region"
Western Europe = 9
Eastern Europe = 3
Asia = 2
North America = 2
Arabia = 1
Oz = 1
Africa = 0
South America = 0

what a great "world championship" we have going eh?

well money, not attendance. If it was attendance Qatar would certainly be gone. But I guess silver briefcases lined with $100 bills can change an officials mind awfull quick.

Welkom always had pretty good attendance, so did Istanbul and Rio. I can understand that they think Istanbul and Rio are too dangerous to ask the teams to go to, Welkom too I suppose, but it's a "world championship" that's touching only 4 continents of the 6. I just feel that western europe needs fewer and S.A and Africa each need atleast 1.

Ofcourse that's just my $0.02 and I'm a dreamer, not an economist. One somewhere in Russia would be good too I think.

yea just for reference, the attendance at Qatar the last day race was like, a couple of thousand people. I've been to club races with higher attendance than that.

I'm sure of it. I mean I don't blame them, but I think they're basicly doing it to advertise their country. I mean the population of Qatar is only 1.3million, it's really just a little port city in the middle of the the gulf. They've got a small oil economy going now, but it's nothing compared to the other countries in the region. It's economy was always based on fishing/pearling/shipping.

But for say 50,000 people to attend, that'd be almost 4% of the population of the country. Which is pretty unreasonable to expect imo.

yea that too, it's basicly the only country in the region that has anything like this. Bahrain has an F1 gp tho, and they're even smaller and right next door. It's very possible that this is a "well we can do that too!" kinda thing.

Man I was like... where is US, Indy... Couldn't find it looking it over quickly so I read every line... and there it is...

Apparently, Indianapolis is a Country inside the US... sort of like DC I guess...

Just kidding

Shanghai is a rubbish circuit anyway ... from a global perspective, it's pretty disappointing that there's not a south american race.

Why don't we have a race in Baghdad?

We still got Motegi and Sepang in Asia, so I don't see what's the problem with dropping a race in Asia.

One in Russia would be cool though.

I just would like to see one in every area, or at the least on 6 continents. And I don't really qualify Qatar as "africa" even tho I guess technically it is.

but ya, south america is a must imo. And something in the Russia area would be great too. Does spain REALLY need 3?

Just curious as to why you'd say that?
I've been to the GP in Shanghai and it was pretty cool as far as I was concerned except for the diabolical mess they made of the organizing for the autograph sessions which was just a fuckin' joke.

Man those little buggers have got sharp elbows!!

But yeah...attendance was dsappointing, but then you've got to look at how much it is compared to a monthly wage and I've got to tell ya, even the small price they were charging from a western perspective is pretty hard to justify for most normal working Chinese. In reality most of the people who were there were foreigners taking advantage of the chance to see a GP race for cheap and Chinese big wigs looking to impresss friends and family.

The circuit itself I thought was OK though.

IMHO, the straights are too long with turns 1 and 14 not suited to grand prix racing ...
