I don't think it will happen, as they mention most of the cost are covered by other sponsors..... if they do it will shock me.

They pulled out of F1 and had sponsors there as well, also pulled out of AMA as well.

and Honda have pulled out of GP before, after having had their asses handed to them repeatedly and not showing signs of improvement. So there's something of a precedent. That was still under Soichiro tho and it's a very different company without him.

Their pulling out in the '60's and returning in the '80's is still something I chuckle about. After all that talk of how they're a 4-stroke company and will race nothing but 4-strokes, they sure turned around when it became clear they couldn't win with them. Not even multi million dollar oval pistoned ones running against $15,000 customer Suzukis.

Actually Honda had no major sponsor in F1 the last couple years. They tried to cover that up by running their "earth dreams" or whatever campaign, painting the cars to look like earch. In reality they couldn't find a major sponsor in 07 or 08, so they were footing almost the whole operating cost themselves.

Repsol has plenty of money to throw at it. I am not worried. Whether the Spaniards can compete consistently I dont have a clue.

What Repsol pay to cover the MotoGP effort wouldn't pay Yosh Suzuki's rider salaries. It's rumoured to be less than 5 mill.

Altho that's just heresay so who knows. But it's a looooongstanding contract.

Isnt Honda's present contract with Repsol ending at 2009? So its soon time to rewrite that contract. Maybe not in the best time..

I doubt they'll pull out of MotoGP. They have a competitve bike and two potential Champs on the Repsol team. F1 pull out makes sense as Honda was spending $500m/yr just to loose. As for AMA, the international community (including Japan) could care less about it so again this makes sense. Cutting the fat away...
