Is Nitro Nori done?

I said this a few times last year and I'm sticking by it so far this season.

I reckoned that last year was Nori's last real chance at grabbing the WSBK crown. I figured if he didn't get it he would be too old, too jaded, too tired of giving it his all and getting it snatched away at the last minute etc to really ever be competitive enough or consistent enough for an entire season again.

There are so many strong and really fast guys in WSBK this year that I reckon he'll never be the 'bride' always the bridesmaid.

Hate to say it 'cos I love Nori's style and his commitment.
Just saw Assen race 1 and he had a terrible race.

What do you guys think?

I absolutely hate to agree to this email because I have watched Haga since day 1, I love the guy, have his helmets, want his new Rainbow helmet, want to build an R1 replica of his Santander WSBK one someday, think he is soooo talented, and really like his style & attitude........BUT, I have to agree.
He just can't break that threshhold, and I think there is a time limit where you either will or won't
I didn't see Assen but he has not looked spectacular this year.
Can I beat him, never.
Do I respect him- always.
Is he going to be world champ, doubt it. IMO

I am a huge fan of Nori as well, so I don't want to count him out just yet.
However, I think Haga's style is better on an I4 than a twin. Also, I think it's no coincidence that the BMW boys are doing better and the Ducati Factory boys are suffering. Mr. Tardozzi(sp?) might have something to do with that.
If Haga were back on the R1, he would be doing better than the current Yamaha Factory riders.

True 'nuff.
Fabrizio was very strong the last 1/3rd of last year - still, problems with the team or not I don't see Nori taking the champeenship with the wealth of young talent that's in the field.

Just watched Race 2 from Assen. Nori retired with some kind of problem and Jonnie Rea took the double - Toseland came through from the 3rd row to podium, Camier crashed out after a great run and Haslam extended his lead damn that was a great race.

Not every great rider wins a championship, likewise some mediocre riders do (Ben Bostrom). So I don't take much from him never winning a championship. Getting second place so many times is no small feat either compared to the consistency of other riders..

You're right of course but given all the consistency, hard work, disappointments etc he's had in his career - it would be nice to see him finally take the championship 'W'.

I'm sure that if you had the chance to ask him 30 years from now what his biggest career disappointment was it would be not winning the WSBK world title (if he doesn't).

Maybe the Ducati team is missing Tardozzi more than anyone could anticipate?

if althea riders can consistently out-pace the factory guys, something's wrong.

i hate to say it but i think haga will be one of those riders who "never was"

haga's never been a great qualifier so i wouldn't take superpole as any indication that he has to "turn in his wings."

however this season looks to be done for him.

It's a shame but I reckon the old warhorse is done. Perhaps some flashes of brilliance will come but his title shot is over already I think. Max, Leon, Johnnie, Leon C, even Carlos are looking consistent and more than ready to scrap. I hope he turns the season around 'cos i hate to see him languishing mid pack. I might be wrong but at Kyalami I don't even think he got any TV time.

Sadly Yes,
Carlos is doing pretty well on his Ducati and there seems to be a problem with the factory ride aiding more to Haga's woes
He deserves a WCT.

alot of people say it's tardozzi leaving and/or that everyone else stepped up their game while the factory team stagnated.

i'd like to see the laptimes from last year and current to compare.
